Meet Pat

I was born and raised in Syracuse. My mom was a public school educator, and my dad worked for the U.S. Post Office until becoming a court attendant. As a kid, spending time with him at the courthouse started me on my path to becoming a lawyer and judge.

I went out of state to pursue my law degree but returned home to practice law and start a family.

Twenty-six years ago, I met and married my wife Katie in Syracuse, and it’s where we chose to raise our six children.

I’ve made a career of protecting Onondaga County children and families, serving as a Judge, Prosecutor, Legislator, and Private Attorney, which has given me a unique understanding of the legal system from multiple angles.

Extensive Experience

  • Current Town of Onondaga Judge: Judge Kilmartin has served as a civil and criminal trial judge for 8 years as Town Justice in the Town of Onondaga.
  • District Attorney: He was a prosecutor in Onondaga County, working in the Felony Trial Unit and DWI Unit, where he prosecuted vehicular homicides, violent felonies, and domestic violence cases.
  • County Attorney: Judge Kilmartin was a County Attorney for Onondaga County for 8 years, handling municipal, contract, real estate, and taxation matters.
  • Onondaga County Legislator: He served as lawmaker and Majority Leader for over 10 years on the Onondaga County Legislature.
  • Private Practice Attorney: For over 30 years, Judge Kilmartin has been a practicing attorney, the last 25 working in commercial real estate, corporate transactions, zoning, planning, and assessment.
